Dear Future Self,
You’ve always been cool. Maybe too cool. You didn’t think you had a drinking problem, but I’m here to tell you that you did. If you look back to October of 2024, the days leading up to this month sparked pains of self loathing, desperation, and trying to numb your emotions with alcohol. You had family help you get to a place where you could concentrate on change, hope, and giving up control. You went to Valley Hope and discovered you could find yourself and live again. On October 19th, you got sober. And here, your life changed.
I hope you are enjoying the new life. Is it filled with love, accomplishments, generosity and travel? If so, you can thank me for putting in the effort to get you there. I had to live attached to addiction, and I’ll tell you, it was miserable. Like soggy leftovers. And I ate them.
I’m believing that you are relying on God, your higher power, to help keep you from drinking. Do you think about taking that first drink? If so, don’t do it. It’s really not worth the relapse. Or the constant stress of trying to hide your drinking from people who love you. Just reflect on the past, and live the future.
I’m counting on you to have goals, and to trust in yourself and your family. Say your prayers every day, and exercise. Do some yoga. Eat healthy. I’m going to live the days for you, and need you to hold up your agreement to take it a day at a time and live life to the fullest. I want you to grab as many hugs as you can, and pet your dogs daily. Talk to people. And if you can help anyone, with this struggle or another, do it.
Don’t forget, you are cool, but not too cool to recognize your addiction. So stay away from them, and the negatives in life, and always move forward to bright days. I’m feeling good right now, for both of us. I’m excited to see what you’ve don with your life and how you changed things around. I’ll catch up with you soon, so be ready for good time to come.
